Laundry room/greenhouse

In an experiment this spring, I decided to try and start some seeds indoors! I planted oregano and coleus on March 15th, and have been storing them in my laundry room on a shelf. It's working quite well to my liking so far...with very quick growth. There is a bit of what looks like mold starting on one of the egg cartons which disturbs me. I think the seedlings should be ready to plant out on May 1st. Which means I'll need Nu to dig up that new garden for me this month....hmmmmm....

Just love your garden blog Sarah. Great way to keep track of the flowers you have planted - what works and what doesn't and why? I only have notes filed away. I used to start hundreds of plants in my house - no time now.
But as to your little "mold appearing stuff" that is mold and what you need is a product called 'damp off'. Just a couple of drops in the soil should take care of the problem. I always had this as a staple in my supplies, thanks to a kindly older woman who taught me about gardening. This mold develops because the growing material has remained to damp (thus you want 'damp off') Do you put your little plants under lights once they have sprouted? I use to plant my seeds in egg cartons as well, then put in the oven with just the light on to give them a warm sprouting environment and once sprouted transferred them to tables with florescent lights over them - distance about 3-4 feet from plant to light. Worked great!

Can't wait to see pictures of your garden as it progresses this year.
BTW - found your blog site through a mutual friend.

Things are growing; sprouting, flourishing, blossoming, withering, beginning and ending... it's the story of a garden.
